⸢Biography⸥

David P. Fields is a historian, editor, and instructional designer. He has a PhD in US diplomatic history from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he studied with Jeremi Suri.

His current project examines the ways that Korean expatriates, especially Syngman Rhee, used the rhetoric of American exceptionalism in their US lobbying activities in the United States during the Japanese occupation of Korea. More generally, David is interested in the role that American exceptionalism has played in US diplomatic history and how non-Americans have tried to use this ideology as an entree into American foreign policy debates.

David is married and has two sons. His other interests include playing squash, backcountry backpacking, and playing music.
